My objective with this project

I tried to design this website before my road trip, and found it hard to decide on anything- even the most basic options on the aesthetics and formatting of the site felt daunting. It turns out, I needed to take the trip to understand what the site will be about and how I want it organized.

“You should write a book about your travels and hikes.”

I’ve heard some variant of that line from various people over the years. Every time the suggestion of a book or website came up- be it guide or memoir- I balked at the idea. I’ve only done a handful of adventures, and others have done a much better job at recording their experiences on the mountains than I have. But the idea of a centralized repository of trip memories with photographs tagged for recall has started to nag at me.

The solution to this is a blog site that allows me to do the following:

  • Provide photo-rich trip reports of new hikes and road trips.
  • Write up reports of past hikes and road trips (in more of a memoir style, as technical aspects are forgotten or blur over time).
  • Allow me to share future trip ideas, or provide reviews on gear that I use.

I have posted pictures from my trip on Instagram, but now comes the time to develop my trip report style and go into detail on my adventures.

This fall and winter, I will work on the write-ups of past hikes and trips.
